From Plain and Practical to Warm and Refined

Before the bathroom renovation, this Southern River bathroom had the clean but fairly standard look often seen in builder-grade homes. It was functional and neutral, but lacked the warmth, texture and personality the homeowners were hoping for. While the space worked well enough, it felt flat and uninspiring, with finishes that did little to give the room any real sense of character.

A Softer, More Considered Design Direction

The goal of the renovation was to create a bathroom that felt calmer, warmer and more thoughtfully styled. Drawing on Scandinavian-inspired design, the focus was on combining natural-looking finishes, clean lines and a restrained palette to achieve a space that felt contemporary without becoming cold or overly minimal. The homeowners wanted something simple and elegant, but with enough detail to make the room feel beautifully resolved.

Texture, Contrast and Natural Warmth

A big part of the transformation came from replacing the cooler grey surfaces with a timber-look benchtop that instantly brought more warmth into the room. A charcoal mosaic feature wall in the shower introduced contrast and visual interest, while matching darker accents helped tie the overall design together. The updated basin, frameless glass shower screen and refined fixtures all contributed to a finish that feels cleaner, more modern and far more intentional.

A Bathroom with More Character

The completed bathroom renovation now feels relaxed, stylish and full of quiet detail. What was once a safe but fairly plain space has been transformed into a bathroom with much more warmth and personality, while still feeling timeless and easy to live with. It is a great example of how thoughtful finishes and a clear design direction can completely change the atmosphere of a room.
